I've met plenty of kids who have disliked maths before I have taught them. By understanding that it's not the maths they hate but the feeling it gives them it's pretty simple to create a change. Just think, who would enjoy jumping in a pool if you couldn't swim and knew you would sink? Even non swimmers can enjoy a pool if they have floats and swimming aids. When children are supported, when they're specific needs are met and they are scaffolded correctly, they can access the maths (jump in that pool) without fear.
